Amy M. (Chase) Patnaude

October 5, 1922 ~ December 23, 2015 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Newport, NH: Amy M. (Chase) Patnaude died on December 23, 2015 at her home.  She was born on October 5, 1922 in Derry, NH to Perley and Marjorie (Stark) Chase.  She grew up in Derry and was very proud of going to Pinkerton Academy.  She lived in Norwich, VT for a number of years before moving to Newport in 1950.  She has lived in the same house on Roseland Road for the past 65 years.

Amy was introduced to her second husband, Oliver, by her granddaughter.  Amy married Oliver in the fall of 1982.  Amy wished they had more time together and despite all her exceptional and compassionate nursing care he predeceased her in 1993.

As a child Amy decided that she wanted to be a Catholic and she began attending the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, NH. After marrying Oliver, Amy returned to her Catholic Faith and was an active member of St. Patrick's Church in Newport for more than 30 years.  She worked at Sylvania in Hillsborough, NH and was proud that she worked on the earliest version of computer circuits.  Amy volunteered at the Newport Senior Center.  Everyone who came to Amy’s home was greeted with a warm smile and no one left her house on an empty stomach. She was a great cook. Her grandchildren will tell you she made the best chocolate chip cookies.  She took great pride in her gardens and how well she maintained her yard and home. She was independent and could do anything; she even could change her own lawn mower oil.  Amy’s greatest passion was dance and this brought her the most joy. In the 1990’s she belonged to a dance group in Newport that put on shows at the Kearsarge Auditorium and at area nursing homes. She continued with her joy of line dancing and was dancing until this past June.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry George, Sr., husband, parents, brothers, Kenneth and Richard Chase, and a granddaughter.

Left behind to celebrate her life are a son, Harry George and his wife Betty of Wentworth, NH, daughters, Beverly Smith and her husband Richard of Grafton, NH, Barbara Fleeman and her husband Clyde of Gordonville, TX, Doreen Demers and her husband James of Croydon, NH, stepson, Melvin George and his wife Shirley of North Newport, 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, her special  friend, Jonathan Purick who brought great joy and laughter into her life over the past year,  and her “girls” as she called them, Meena, Melissa, Cheryl, Beth, Donna, Jen.  The family cannot express their gratitude to the stellar, compassionate, supportive care that Amy received from Connecticut Valley Home Care.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at 10am at St. Patrick's Church in Newport with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery with Fr. Michael Monette, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pinkerton Academy (Campaign for Excellence Fund), 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038 or the Newport Senior Center, 76 South Main St., Newport, NH 03773.
