Eero J. Niemi

Newport, NH - Eero J. Niemi, 88, of Newport died on April 21, 2016 at New London Hospital after a period of declining health.  He was born on November 17, 1927 in Newport to the late Eero and Lillian (Johnson) Niemi. 

Eero graduated from Towle High School with the class of 1946.  He worked as a fixer at Dorr Woolen Mill all of his life.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed golfing, and liked to feed the birds.  Eero loved to downhill ski and was a founding member of the Mount Sunapee Ski Club. 

Eero was predeceased by his parents and by his first wife, Adrienne (Emery) Niemi. 

Eero is survived by his former wife of 38 years, Irene (Gagne) Niemi of Newport, daughter, Nancy Barton and her husband Doug of Newport, stepdaughter, Terri Spanos and her husband Paul of Newport, brother, Richard Niemi and his wife Mary of Newport, granddaughter, Kathleen "Kat" Barrell and her husband Chris of Newport, grandson, Matthew Spanos and his wife Kelly of New London, and great-grandson Brett Barrell of Newport.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11 A.M. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport with Rev. Alice Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
