Esther M (Combs) McElreavy

Newport, NH: Esther M. McElreavy, 88, died on November 9, 2016 at Sullivan County Nursing Home after a period of declining health.  She was born on July 13, 1928 in Richford, VT to the late David C. and Lillian B. (Fletcher) Combs. 

Esther grew up in Montgomery, North Troy, and East Berkshire, VT.  She worked as a waitress, 12 years at Sportwelt Shoe Shop, 20 at Tambrands (retiring in 1990) and then going to work at Wal-Mart part-time for another 10 years. 

Esther enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, candlepin bowling, at which she was a champion of her league, and then she continued with wii bowling, which she loved.  She also liked sewing.  Her greatest joy was being a grandparent.

Esther was predeceased by her parents, and her stepmother Sarah Combs,  her significant other of 35 years, Walter Kenneth Murray in 2015, sisters, Elsie Santaw and Marilyn Rebenski, brothers, William Fletcher, Wilfred Fletcher, Guy Combs, David Fletcher, and Raymond Combs.

Survivors include daughters, Margaret McAuley of Newport, NH, Charmane Sablock and her husband James of Claremont, NH, brothers, Herschel Fletcher and his wife Nancy of North Troy, VT, Robert Combs and his wife Alice of North Troy, VT, and Gerald Combs and his wife Beverly of Claremont, NH, sisters, Madeline Henderson of Manchester, CT and Sarah Ouelette and her husband Guy of Charlestown, NH, grandchildren, Chantel Thresher, Ciara Sablock, Rosemarie McAuley and John McAuley and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Thresher. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Sullivan County Nursing Home, Activities Fund.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 2-3 P.M. with a service at 3 P.M. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH.
