Welcome to the memorial page for

George A. Rice

July 26, 1928 ~ June 14, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Sunapee, NH: George A. Rice, 88, of Bradford Road passed away at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport, NH on June 14, 2017.  George was born on July 26, 1928 in Concord, NH to the late John and Eunice (Robinson) Rice.  They moved to a farm in Loudon where George grew up. George loved to reminisce about life on the farm, their view of Kearsarge, and work and play as one of nine children.

George graduated from Concord High School and served his country in the United States Navy. He received an honorable discharge when his service was cut short due to a serious motorcycle accident which caused partial paralysis of his left arm. He met Margaret May Gregory and married her in 1952. George enjoyed working as a cabinet maker at LaValley's and operating his own business, Rice's Sewing Machine Sales and Repair.  After retiring, he worked at the State of NH Rest Area in Sutton.

George enjoyed repairing small engines, tinkering and improvising.  He was an open-hearted, devout man who read his Bible, and loved to play games and socialize with family and friends. George had a serious and a fun side, being quite mischievous  at times. He loved music, singing in and out of the car, and playing his harmonica. His family will always treasure the fun times they had together, walking and exploring, catching lightning bugs, Sunday drives, picnics, and the memories he and his sweetheart, Maggie, made for them. It is interesting to note that when Margaret and George were young, they and their friends would sing carols for the residents in the place that God would have him spend his last days.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Jack, Alden, and Robert Rice, sisters, Janet Hutchinson, Ellen Flanders, Ruth Rolfe and Ruby Rice, grandchildren, Elijah and Keyra Green, and nephew, Eric Gregory.

He will be dearly missed by his surviving family including his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Gregory) Rice, daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Rice-Robinson and Deborah Bacon and husband Garth, all of Sunapee, brother Dick Rice and wife Barbara of Concord, granddaughter Kelsey Vu and husband Cuong of West Springfield, MA, and great grandchildren, Alexander and Evie, and lots of nieces, nephews, and extended family including Richard, Randy, Charlene, Gregory, Larry and Raymond Chapman, and many more.
