Newport, NH-Gerald “Clate” “Jerry” C. Parrotto, 70, of Springfield Road, died Friday, November 20, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH surrounded by family.
He was born in Newport, NH on May 31, 1945 the son of Armand Parrotto and Cora (Roberts) Thornton.
He attended Stevens High School in Claremont and served in the US Army as a tank operator stationed in Germany in the early 60's. He worked for Bryant Grinder in Springfield, VT for 25 years and then for Sturm Ruger retiring in 2010.
He was President of the Foresters Club of Newport, a member of The Claude Brewster Post No. 25 American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose and former commander of the Newport VFW. Clate was an avid sports fan particularly enjoying the New York Yankees. He loved riding his motorcycle and going to the ocean.
He is predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Clarence “Punk” Thornton, Junette Simmers and Judy Dalton and his stepmother, Sylvia Parrotto. He is survived by his longtime partner, Terry Jones of Newport, NH; his son, Gregg Parrotto of Claremont, NH; two grandchildren, Evelina and Levi Parrotto; his sisters Barbara Cuttings of Lebanon NH, Esther Thornton-Carey of Enfield NH, and Donna Parrotto of Concord, NH and brother, Larry Parrotto of Hooksett, NH; nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Foresters Club, 38 Maple Street, Newport, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Clate's memory may be made to the Toys For Tots Program or the Newport Food Pantry.
