Ida (Dal Mas) Zornio

October 31, 1923 ~ September 10, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Berlin, NH:  Long time Sunapee resident Ida Zornio, aged 91, died September 10 in Berlin, NH of heart failure and pneumonia.

Ida was born in Carpesica, Vittorio Veneto, Treviso, Italy, in 1923.  She grew up with 5 brothers and sisters on a farm in the scenic Northeastern Italian countryside, and went to the local sewing school.  She survived World War II in occupied Italy, and then moved to Geneva, Switzerland to work as a seamstress.  She married her husband Luigi in her home village of Carpesica in 1950, and together they made a life in Roubaix, France where Luigi had been living.  From France they immigrated to America in 1954 to reside first in Georges Mills, then the Wendell area of Sunapee where Luigi worked at Sturm & Ruger, and Ida made a home for them and their 3 children.  After retiring, they spent many happy winters in Venice, Florida, returning to Sunapee in the summer.  In 2004 they relocated to Florida full time, then to assisted living in Austin, TX near their son Peter and family in 2010.  In January of 2015, Ida relocated to the nursing home in Berlin, NH to be near her other son Yves and his family.

Throughout her life Ida had a love for sewing and fabrics.  She was an avid gardener, and especially liked her yard’s Shasta daisies, roses, carnations, and geraniums.  Ever social, she loved her tea parties with friends, neighbors, and grandchildren and the accompanying conversation.  Family was important to her, and she always wanted to be around them.

Ida is survived by two sons, Peter (Austin, TX) and Yves (Gorham, NH), 3 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a sister.  One daughter, Anna Zornio, as well as Luigi and four siblings have preceded Ida in death.

A catholic mass will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 16, at St. Joachim’s Mission in Sunapee, NH with burial to follow at St. Patrick’s cemetery in Newport, NH.  Reception to be held at St Patrick’s Assumption Hall in Newport.

Donations in her name can be made to the American Heart Association.
