Newport, NH – James “Jim” C. Moulton died peacefully, on Wednesday December 13th, in his home at the age of 69 surrounded by his family, after a gallant battle with cancers associated with exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

Jim was born on February 21st, 1948 in Elkins, NH to Gerald C. Moulton and Alice Hayes Moulton.  He grew up in Elkins and attended New London High School.  As a small boy enjoying what is now a bygone era at the height of Elkins’ industrial age, he assisted his father in building the family home and logging with his grandfather, Silas Moulton, by horse drawn team. He was drafted at the age of 18 to Vietnam and served in the Army in the 182nd Aviation Company as an airframe repairman, and saw the world!

He married Donna Tilton Moulton on September 24th, 1983 and supported her profession as Registered Nurse for 40 years.  Jim was a man of many talents; he was a self-taught musician, economist, numismatist, and artist.  His prized accomplishment though, was spoiling Donna and supporting her many positions in the community and nursing profession.   He was her John Lennon!

After moving to Newport, NH Jim began working as a machinist at a local machine shop.  Over the next 6 years, they welcomed two children into their home.  Given the market sensitivity of his occupations, Jim ultimately decided to stay home and raise the children while he pursued a license in real estate/brokerage.   After obtaining his real estate/brokerage license he worked at Town & Country Realty in Claremont, NH and enjoyed a long career of selling houses and building connections in Sullivan County. Being “Mr. Mom” was by far his favorite occupation and he set about teaching the children to appreciate their community, the love of family and friends, music, the environment, and New England sports.   His children remember him as an amazing father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Jim found solace in the mountains and loved camping with his family and friends.   He was an accomplished “camp architect” and took delight in teaching his kids and their friends the art of camping. He was a witty individual who loved playing music and telling stories/jokes with his many friends who he considered family.  Some of his favorite places included the dam at Pleasant Lake, Dolly Copp, Flat Rock, the cottage at Lake Sunapee, and Lucasville.

Surviving family members include his wife, Donna T. Moulton of Newport, NH, his children; Kyle Tilton Moulton of Barre, VT, and Kelsey James Moulton of Boston, MA, his beloved cat, Noelle, his sister, Faith Moulton of Franklin, NH, his brother Michael Moulton, and his wife, Heidi Teach Moulton of New London, NH, their children; Joshua Moulton, and his wife, Sele. Peter Moulton, and his wife, Lyndsay and their children, and Michael Moulton Jr., and his wife, Meagan.

Jim’s calling hours at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street in Newport, NH will be Friday, December 29, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at South Congregational Church, 20 Church Street, Newport, NH with The Rev. Eliot Fay, pastor, officiating.
