Jeffrie R. Boutwell, 90, of Dublin, NH and formerly of Keene, NH, died March 16, 2016, at Monadnock Community Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born on February 12, 1926 in Cornish, NH to Ray and Goldie (Flint) Boutwell.  He was one of thirteen children.  He attended area schools and while at Towle High School (Newport, NH) his interests were football and baseball.  Sports continued to be a lifelong interest as he followed his Red Sox and Patriots teams.  He was drafted into the Army before his senior year in August 1944.  He was in the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion where he participated in the “Battle of the Bulge”.  After his one year enlistment was over, he reenlisted in November 1945 for 13 months in the U.S. Constabulary, policing the American occupied zone of Germany after the war.  Honorably discharged on December 19, 1946, he returned home to marry Charlotte Jennie Nichols of Lempster, NH  on February 3, 1947.

Although his high school education was interrupted so he could serve his country, his granddaughter Leslie Kermick Pennel contacted the Newport School District.  A high school diploma was personally presented to Jeff at his home in June of 2004.

During high school he worked part time at the Brampton Woolen Mill and then with his father in the logging business.  In 1952 he began working for Sprague & Carlton in Keene making fine maple furniture.  He worked there until his retirement in 1988 when the plant closed its doors, leaving as the supervisor of the sanding department.  During retirement he spent a great deal of time in his workshop.  He enjoyed working with wood, making furniture, clocks, birdhouses and anything friends and family would ask him to make,  He was a master carpenter in his own right.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, Charlotte Nichols Boutwell, two daughters, Linda Holmes and her husband Allen of Groveton, NH, and Diane Kermick of Philadelphia, PA.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, a sister Madeline (Boutwell) Davis, brother-in-law Dexter Collins and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews.

He is pre-deceased by his infant son of 3 months Jeffrie R. Boutwell, Jr., sisters Maxine Hurd, Doris Bannister, Lulu Durgin, Shirley Boutwell, Sheila Spaulding, Joyce Collins, and brothers John Boutwell and Francis Boutwell, Sr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 at Newton Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport, NH.  Burial will be at a later date.

Donations may be made in his memory to Lempster Historical Society, c/o Laura Pinkney, PO Box 213, Lempster, NH 03605 or to Dublin Community Church, PO Box 308, Dublin, NH 03444.
