Joan E. (Carter) Bleau

Newport, NH-Joan E. (Carter) Bleau, 72, of Laurel Street, died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born in Middletown, CT on April 14, 1945 the daughter of Elliot B. and Lucille H. (Chapman) Carter.
Joan spent her early years in Chester, CT and graduated from Valley Regional High School in Deep River, CT.  She lived in Ivoryton, CT for many years before moving to Newport, NH in 2001.  Joan worked for Southern New England Telephone for over 20 years while living in CT and also was employed in the supervisory office at Region School District #4 in Deep River.  She earned her Associate’s Degree from Middlesex Community College in 1972.  After moving to NH, she worked part-time for the Sunapee Town Office and also volunteered as a teacher’s aid for the Goshen Lempster School for 12 years.
Joan loved being with her granddaughter, Hannah, and attended all of her activities.  She was a member of PEO.  Joan enjoyed going to Maine with friends and liked to bake pies and cookies.  Knitting was a favorite pastime and she would knit mittens for the children at school and as gifts for teachers.
She married Francis E. Bleau on August 23, 1969 and he died in 1998.  She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Jeannine and Kenneth Everitt of Goshen, NH and their daughter, Hannah; two sisters, Linda and her husband, Robert Kroupa of Unity, NH and Katherine and her husband, Donald Andrukaitis of Unity, NH; a niece and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at South Congregational Church, Newport, NH. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook, CT at a later date.
