Pamela Easter Wiggins Quinlan 1942 - 2015.

Pamela Quinlan died peacefully on September 13th following a 10 month battle with cancer, at the age of 73. She was born on April 5th, 1942 in New London, NH to Aline Messer Wiggins and Burt Wiggins. Throughout her life she loved to travel and visited many countries but her true love was her grandchildren.

Pamela was a graduate of Sunapee High School in 1960 and received her diploma in nursing from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, her bachelor's degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, and completed post graduate courses from Northeastern University.

Pamela was once the lead surgical nurse at Boston’s Brigham and Women Hospital, and a former president of the Greater Boston Association of Occupational Health Nurses. She was board certified in Occupational Health Nursing and in the 1980s served as the Occupational Health Nurse for the city of Peabody, Massachusetts. During this time Pamela consulted with the late Senator Edward Kennedy on the drafting of national occupational health and safety legislation and also worked closely with then Peabody Mayor the late Peter Torigian on development of Peabody’s occupational health and safety standards. Pamela’s professional experience also included significant roles at JB Thomas Hospital in Peabody, Massachusetts as well as the corporate occupational health and safety nursing manager for Digital Equipment, AT&T, Tyco International, Crouse Hines, Marriott Boston Long Wharf Hotel, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Harvard Vanguard.

In addition to her work experience, Pamela was also active in many educational and volunteer efforts including mentoring nursing students at Northeastern University, Salem State College, Simmons College, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell. In 1986 she was a member of the Johns Hopkins University medical unit which in traveled to and cared for victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the Soviet Union.

Pamela is predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Walter Quinlan. She is also predeceased by her grandson Davis Hemingway, brother Robert O’Connor, sister Linda Morse, and sister Alice Densmore.

Pamela is lovingly remembered by her children Jason Quinlan and wife Nancy of China and Rebecca Hemingway and husband Chad of Newport, NH. She had six grandchildren Samantha Hemingway, Michael C. Hemingway, Madison Hemingway, Benjamin Quinlan, Aidan Quinlan, Chad Hemingway II. Pamela’s surviving brothers and sisters are Ellen Austin Doxter, Flora Johnson, Burt Wiggins, Martin Wiggins, Sarah Jedrzynski and Betsy Wiggins and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Special thanks is given to the exceptional care provided by the staff and owners of Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, NH.

Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Funeral services will be held at South Congregational Church on South Main Street in Newport on Friday, September 18th. Viewing is 10:30am and funeral service is 11:00am, a luncheon reception is immediately to follow.
