Rena M. (Sanborn) Kathan

Newport, NH - Rena M. Kathan, 87, died January 8, 2017 at the Genesis Healthcare Center in Lebanon, NH following a period of declining health.  She was born in Claremont, NH on May 16, 1929 the daughter of Herman A. and Cecelia (Fowler) Sanborn.  

Rena graduated from Towle High School in 1948 and spent her entire life in the Newport/Claremont area. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Sylvania in Hillsboro, NH, and as a Clerk in the Purchasing Dept. for GLOENCO in Newport.  Rena enjoyed cooking, was an avid reader and a lover of all animals.  

She was predeceased by her first husband of 35 years, Frank Larmie, in 1998 and her second husband, Earl W. Kathan, Sr, in 2016.  

Rena is survived by her  sister, Leila Barton of Grantham, NH; two brothers, Herman Sanborn, Jr. of Sanbornville, NH and Harold Sanborn of Grantham, NH and a step-mother Edna Earle, of Grantham, NH; 3 stepsons, James, Earl, Jr. and Charles Kathan and other extended family members.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held in the Spring in the South Village Cemetery in Westmoreland, NH.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, PO Box 111, Claremont, NH  03743.
