Richard F. Rossiter

Croydon, NH: Richard F. Rossiter, 79, of Croydon Turnpike died on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 surrounded by family at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Newport, NH on July 23rd, 1937, Richard was the son of the late Edward W. and Marjorie (Hurd) Rossiter. Raised in Newport, Richard could usually be found tinkering with a wrench and repairing whatever engine he could get his hands on.

Richard served his country by enlisting in the National Guard for ten years, during which he helped in the Berlin Crisis for a lengthy ten months. While in service, he took his passion of engines and turned it into a career, obtaining the title of Track and Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. After the National Guard, Richard found himself working at Sturm Ruger. He would stay there for thirty-two years, becoming a supervisor, and eventually retire in 2000.

Richard passed his spare time by working on old gasoline engines, especially one lungers. He was an active member of the New Hampshire Gas and Steam Engine Association. He also belonged to the Brewster-Gould-Lee-Rollins American Legion Post #25 in Newport, NH.

Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years, Edith (King) Rossiter, sons, Lester Rossiter and his wife Betty of North Newport, and Brian Rossiter of Newport, grandchildren, Heather and her husband, Edward Peckham, and Heidi and her husband, Chris MacKenna, and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Emily Peckham; two sisters, Patricia Osgood of Claremont, NH and Catherine Thurston of Newport, NH; nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health/CHaD at One Medical Center Drive, HB 7070, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH. Burial will be in North Newport Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Croydon Fire Station.
