Colin G. Halleck

Newport, NH - Colin G. Halleck, 60, peacefully passed away on July 16, 2019 at Sullivan County Healthcare after  a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia & Parkinson," often called the "longest goodbye disease."  He remained sweet and kind till the very end, which is a rarity with this form of Dementia.  He never became aggressive, he always had such a handsome smile on his face.

Colin was born on February 6, 1959 to the late William L. Halleck and Joan (Arbucki) Halleck in Key West, FL.  Due to his father being in the Submarine Services for years, Colin grew up in many different areas but most of his childhood was spent in Ledyard, CT, before the family eventually settled in Newport, NH in 1973. 

Colin attended Newport High School, his nickname was “Frampton," after the musician Peter Frampton, because he resembled him so much, with his long blonde hair and their love of playing guitar.  He was also an amazing baseball pitcher (FAST) and dreamed of being a major league pitcher, the likes of Nolan Ryan, his baseball idol, and could run really fast.  People use to say to him “Run, Forrest, Run” and he’d laugh. Colin graduated with the class of 1978.

He worked a variety of jobs, but really enjoyed working for Oscram/Sylvania the most. Colin was hardworking, never missing time and exemplified a great work ethic taught to him a very young age by his Dad.

Colin loved collecting stamps, which was a hobby passed down to him, first from father and then his older brother, old coins, old postcards, baseball cards, Beatles memorabilia; you name it, he had it.  But what he was most known for, was not his collecting, but for his love of music. 

It all started when his big brother, Bill, gifted him a 1964 Kay Bass. You would barely see Colin without a bass guitar, electric, 12-string acoustic or a harmonica in his hands. His older brother taught him how to play the bass and so his love of the guitar began. You could always find him in Whitcomb’s Music Store in Claremont on the weekends, scoping out guitar strings, harmonicas and guitars to try out. He loved Mr. Whitcomb for his kindness & trust he displayed towards the youth and the opportunity he gave them, by allowing them to try out a new instrument, bring it home and return it to the store. 

Colin was little bit shy but he had a heart of gold, if he got to know you and he liked you, you were a friend for life. He adored his cats, Spike and his "proper lady" Pixie-Doodle.

He is predeceased by his amazing father, William Lee Halleck II; his mother, Joan Arbucki; his stepmother, Marilyn Halleck; and his brother, Mark Halleck. 

Surviving family includes his loving wife, Alice (Williams) Halleck; a daughter, Angela Williams;  stepsons, Craig Beaudry, Mark Beaudry, Dustin Beaudry, and Doug Hazen;  stepdaughters, Jill Beaudry, Julie Beaudry, Beth Hazen, and Angela Hazen; brothers, William L. Halleck 3 and Glenn Halleck and his wife Hillary; sisters, Dianne Strycharz and her husband Ed, Colleen Taylor and her husband Ray; his grandchildren, Ayanna, Ashton, and Ava Williams; stepgrandchildren, Kelci, Aubrey, Gabrielle, Hunter, Zoey, Maddison, Kendra, Gage, Paige, Kayla, and Emma; numerous nieces, nephews, and many loving friends. He will truly be missed for his sense of humor and the kindness he displayed towards others, especially to his good friends Richard French, Ted Boughton, Ed Russell, Brian Blanchard,  Andy and Patricia Nichols.

A memorial service will be held at the Moose Club, 18 Golf Club Rd., Newport, NH 03773, from 6 - 8 PM on August 4, 2019.  All are welcome to attend.  A Celebration of Life will be held at later date at the convenience of the family.

There are not enough words to express the appreciation felt forwards the members of the LSVNA and Hospice team, whom are now friends for life and cared for Colin, and the amazing staff in MacConnell Unit and Stearns II at Sullivan County Healthcare. They would all walk by our side until the end.

Colin will be loved and  missed by all who knew him and never, ever forgotten.
