Cynthia Ann (Shepard) McAlpine

Newport, NH - Born  Cynthia Ann Shepard July 4, 1935 in Newport , NH. Passed away January 1. 2018 in Canoga Park, California. She was the daughter of Ada and Harold Shepard, both of Newport.

Cynthia grew up in Newport with numerous friends who called her either Cynthia, Cynnie, Cindy, or Cyn. She was very loyal to her friends, particularly to the Coidakis Family of Newport, the Purmort family of Goshen and Charlestown, the Johnson family of Claremont, and Martha Swain of Newport.

Cynthia attended Towle High School, graduating as class Valedictorian in 1953. She earned her Bachelor's Degree cum Laude in history at the University of New Hampshire in 1957, followed by her Master's Degree in Education from Keene State College in 1958. Cynthia taught school for ten years in Lebanon, NH before marrying Raymond McAlpine and moving to California in 1968 where she made numerous new friends. Ray and Cynthia spend many happy years together and traveled extensively, visiting or passing through 65 countries. They would have been married fifty years on June 22, 2018.

Cynthia was a beloved asset to the McAlpine Family. She fit in with everyone and was loved by all. She was a wonderful person. She can't be replaced. She is greatly missed.

She is survived by husband Raymond A. McAlpine of Canoga Park, CA, sister-in-law Bonnie M. McAlpine of Winchester, NH, brother-in-law Bruce R. McAlpine of Wilder, VT, nephew Ryan C. McAlpine, wife Tayla and daughter Arya of Keene, NH, special cousins Beatrice Wilner and husband Frank of Concord, NH, Carol Ferns of Bow, NH, Heather Campigny and husband John Anderson of Medford, MA, and Rita Purmort of Goshen, NH, along with many other McAlpine and Purport cousins.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 40 School St., Newport, NH at 11 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Interment will follow at the North Newport Cemetery.
