David A . Shackett

Croydon, NH-David A. Shackett, 76 , of Loverin Hill Road, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at his home.

He was born in Newport, NH on April 15, 1941 the son of Wilfard E. and Bertha (Hackett) Shackett.  He graduated from Towle High School and attended the University of NH.

Dave owned his own hardwood floor company and then worked in retail for several years before becoming a supervisor for Sturm Ruger.  For 13 years he was the head of a department for Dorr Woolen Mill.

He had been active in town affairs and in the 70’s and 80’s had served on several different boards and committees.  He was proud of what he could accomplish in spite of his failing eyesight.

Dave was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Virginia Shackett Garrity, William Shackett and Winifred “Dolly” Duhaime.  He is survived by two brothers and their wives, Robert and Jane Shackett of Newport, NH and Peter and Caroline Shackett of St. Petersburg, FL; nieces and nephews including his niece, Kelly Shackett who stayed with him so he was able to die at home.

Friends may call at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 from 11:00-12:30 and a graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Croydon East Village Cemetery.
