Davis Hemingway Obituary

Davis V. Hemingway, 86, passed away Tuesday December 3, 2019, when he stopped breathing.  He was born in Highgate Springs, VT to Raymond and Carrie (Partlow) Hemingway. The family moved to Newport, NH in 1942.  He married Valerie Shepard on March 7, 1953. They spent 66 mostly good years together.

Davis worked in local factories before he retired from Goodyear in 1987.  He then owned and operated Dave’s Small Engine Repair and Used Snowmobile Parts (if anyone needs spare parts contact the family).  He was well known to everyone as Dave, Dad, Uncle Dave, Grampa and PeaPaw. Dave loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family (but he hated onions). He spent many a day teaching his offspring to hunt, fish and ride snowmobiles and 4-wheelers. Dave loved going to yard sales to find a good deal on any kind of junk….his wife would find a way to get rid of it a few weeks later.  He never smoked or drank but was an avid gambler and Bingo player. Dave looked forward to Bingo on Wednesdays with Joyce and Maggie.

Davis leaves four children; Cheryl Benedetti (Samuel), Lori Flewelling (Dale), Chad Hemingway (Rebecca) and Cindy Conroy (Wayne).  He leaves two sisters; Joyce Goodwin and Marlene Blanchard (Cap). He was predeceased by his grandson, Davis C. Hemingway, two brothers, Orin and Allen “Punk” Hemingway, four sisters, Inza Johnson, Elsie Johnson, Joan “Honey” Sherman and Susan Orrok. Davis leaves eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dave is now enjoying his morning coffee with all of his old friends who left before him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00am at South Congregational Church in Newport, NH.  Reception immediately following service at the South Congregational Church.
