Douglas Frederick Obituary

Sunapee, NH – Douglas J. Frederick, 74, passed away after a short illness at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on October 26, 2019.

Born on December 25, 1944 in Burton-Upon-Trent, England to the late Douglas H. and Eunice (Sale) Frederick.  Doug grew up and spent a majority of his lifetime in Corona, NY.

After graduating from High School, Doug went on to proudly enlist in the Air Force, where he served during Tet offensive pleiku AFB Vietnam 1968.  Upon returning to the States, he worked as a letter carrier in New York for fifteen years, getting to deliver mail to Mets players and even Louis Armstrong.  After retiring from the post office, Doug moved to Sunapee and eventually became known as the “Hot Dog Man” from selling his famous “Dougie Dogs” on Dewey Beach.

He loved fishing, going for a drive, woodworking, and had a passion for ancestry and genealogy research.  Doug enjoyed all types of music (except country) and even managed his son’s band for ten years.  He was blunt, always telling things as he saw it, and happened to always be right in his opinions. Doug will be known for being an incredibly smart man with a good heart, infectious laugh, and optimistic outlook.  He was loving and supportive, always putting his family first.  He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

He is predeceased by his parents and his granddaughter, Cameron Frederick.  Surviving family includes his loving wife of 49 years, Linda (Loher) Frederick; his son, James Frederick and his significant other, Jennifer Lurvey, of Claremont; his daughter, Christine Frederick and her significant other, Mario Cusanelli, of Claremont; brother, Raymond Frederick and his wife, Barbara, of Pennsylvania; sister, Eunice La Spisa and her husband, Richie, of New York; grandchildren, Madison, Alexa, Abby, Tylor, Luke, and Kelsey; great-grandchild, Brayleigh; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 2 – 4 PM at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St. Newport, NH 03773.  A funeral service with military honors will start at 4 PM.  Burial will be held at a later date.
