Kathy (Chapman) Barton died peacefully, in her sleep, at home, on July 19th in Newport, NH at the age of 63.
Kathy was born on Oct 1st, 1954, in Marion, IN to Harold and Katherine Chapman. She earned her LPN license through the Boces program in NY state. She met her husband, Ben Barton, at the Bible Institute of New England in St. Johnsbury, VT, when she was in her second year there. They were married on March 14th, 1975. After moving to Newport, NH, Ben’s hometown, at the end of the school year, she eventually worked at Woodlawn Nursing Home and at the Sullivan County Nursing home. Her nursing career also included taking care of private duty home health care and then foot clinics for Valley Regional Home Care and Lake Sunapee Home Care. Kathy also was an assistant high school teacher at Claremont Christian Academy and, for a few years, taught kindergarten at CCA. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Claremont, NH, for 43 years and, over those years, was involved in teaching Sunday School, children’s church, singing in the choir, solos, duets with her husband, and concerts with her family, working in the nursery, was church clerk, led bereavement groups, and was a deaconess. She loved her three children and her ten grandchildren. She liked to read, watch old movies, and to travel. She visited all fifty states, Puerto Rico, Mali-Africa, Philippines, and Canada with her husband.
She was predeceased by her son, Scott, who died in an auto accident in 2001 at the age of 22. Her surviving family includes her husband, Ben, her son, Adam Barton and his wife, Melanie, and their children, Tyler, Faith, Silas, and David, her daughter, Julie Frisch and her husband, Tim, and their children, Nathanael, Naomi, Aaron, Anna, Sarah, and Olivia, her parents, her two brothers and her sister and their spouses, and many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
The calling hours will be on Thursday, July 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral home in Newport, NH. There will be a reception at 12:00 on Friday, July 27th, at Calvary Baptist Church, Claremont, NH prior to the funeral service at 1:30, same location, with a committal service at Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport, to follow.
