Newport, NH - Luraine Hurd, 91, passed away on June 15, 2019 at Woodlawn Care Center.
She was born on October 14, 1927 to the late Wilfred and Marion (Eager) Fitch in Ware, MA. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston After College she Married Yorick Hurd of Medford MA and went to work for Consumer's Report testing products as a laboratory technician. Luraine has lived in Mamaroneck, NY, Milford, CT, and Washington, NH before settling down in Newport, NH for her later years in life. She always enjoyed many summers in Lempster, NH where she served as secretary for the Lempster Old Home Day. In her later years she would work at the Woodbine Cottage in Sunapee, NH.
Luraine also served as a Deacon at Scarsdale Congregational Church and volunteered at the Franklin Pierce Homestead. She loved photography, as it was a passion of hers since she was a child. Luraine also enjoyed flower arranging and other crafts that used natural materials. She also had a special talent for being able to write in cursive backwards with either hand.
She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Arthur Fitch and Stanley Fitch; and her sister, Charlotte Rumlik. Surviving family includes her sons, Warren Hurd and his wife, Sindie of Lempster, NH, and Howard Hurd and his wife, Kimberly of Marstons Mills, MA; grandson, Ryan Bakis of Concord; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Springfield, MA on Friday, June 21, 2019 at noon.
