Marjorie P. Soucy

Unity, NH: Marjorie P. Soucy, 90, died on August 1, 2018 at Sullivan County Health Care.  She was born on December 11, 1927 in Concord, NH to the late Robert and Florence (Chandler) Partington.  Marjorie grew up in Westfield, MA, graduating from high school with the class of 1945.  She went on to graduate from Keene Teacher's College in 1950. 

Marjorie taught 1st grade at Newport Elementary School for 18 years.  She appeared with her sister, Priscilla Sargent, in 2 films by local film producer and director, Bruce Cronin, "The Wild Goose", and "Henry Phipps Goes Skiing", starring "Babe" Sargent, her brother in law.  Marjorie was active with the Newport Opera House and appeared in several local plays. 

Marjorie was a very involved member of her community as a past member of the Newport Teacher's Association, the Professional Women's Club, and the Newport Home Demonstration Club.  She also sang in the South Congregational Church Area Choir. 

Marjorie and her late husband, Alphonse J. Soucy,lII, were honored by the Newport Chamber of Commerce upon their retirement in 1983 with an achievement award presented by then Governor of the State of NH, John Sununu, for recognition of their contribution to the growth and betterment of the Newport area. 

She has spent her final years at the Clough Center in New London and finally at Sullivan County Health Care in Unity.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse J. Soucy, III, in 2008, and her brother, Milton Partington.

Surviving family members include her 4 children, Alan J. Soucy of Sunapee, NH, Stephen P. Soucy of Goshen, NH, Jeanne Tibbets of Sanbornton, NH, and Margaret Ryan of Northumberland, PA, sister, Priscilla Sargent of Georges Mills, NH, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many extended family members. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newport Senior Center at 76 South Main St. Newport, NH 03773 or to Sullivan County Health Care, Resident's Fund, 5 Nursing Home Drive, Unity, NH 03743. 

Calling hours will be held on Sunday August 5, 2018 from 7 to 9 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday August 6 at 11 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 32 Beech St., Newport followed by refreshments with family and friends at Assumption Hall (located next to the church).  Graveside services will be held the following morning, Tuesday, at 10 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery on Summer St. in Newport.
