Maureen O. Ransom

October 31, 1931 ~ June 15, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Grantham, NH: Maureen O. Ransom, 85, died on June 15, 2017.

Born October 31, 1931, she was the daughter of Walter and Alice (Leary) O’Neill of Belmont, MA. Maureen graduated from Belmont High School in 1948 and Framingham State Teachers’ College in 1952.  She then taught elementary school in Lexington, MA and Oakland, CA. 

Maureen met her future husband working summers in Ogunquit, ME.  She married Marquand S. Ransom of Frankfort, IN on July 24, 1954.  They moved to Indiana where Maureen taught school and completed her Master of Education from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1962 while raising 3 small children.

Maureen and her family spent several years living in England and Mexico offering her the opportunity for much European travel.

In 1996, after living in Scituate, MA for 27 years, Maureen and her husband retired to the Eastman community in Grantham, NH becoming active in various community activities and committees.  Maureen was a member of the Grantham, NH school board, spent 12 years as an AARP tax preparation volunteer, and served on multiple Eastman committees.  She enjoyed travel, bridge, water aerobics, golf and skiing.

Surviving Maureen are her daughter Cynthia Ransom of Grantham, NH; son Kevin Ransom and his wife Elizabeth of Longmont, CO; daughter Patryce Martinez and her husband Richard of Hanover, MA; son Matthew Ransom of Carver, MA; sister Patryce Cosgrove and her husband John; sister-in-law Patricia O’Neill; and 3 grandchildren: Cara Stanton, Adam Lang and Shane Ransom.  Maureen was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Marquand; her parents; brother, Walter O’Neill; sister, Nancy O’Malley; and brother-in-law, Charles O’Malley.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 8 at 11 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 32 Beech St., Newport, NH.  This will be followed by a 12:30 P.M. luncheon reception at The Center at Eastman.

Maureen’s family would like to thank the staff of The Gardens at Wheelock Terrace, Hanover, NH and Bayada Hospice for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the Ransom family requests that donations be made in Maureen’s memory to either the Dartmouth Hitchcock Aging Resource Center, 46 Centerra Pkwy, Lebanon, NH 03766, or to the CCBA Scholarship Fund, 1 Taylor Street, Lebanon, NH 03766.
