"Aunt Ollie"
Olive K. Sutton, known by many as "Aunt Ollie", died peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2018 at the Woodlawn Care Ctr. in Newport, NH. She, as well as her family, so appreciated the exceptional love and care she received there for several years. Her death came within 24 hours of the passing of her beloved cat Petunia.
Aunt Ollie was born on June 7, 1927 in Claremont, NH to Fred and Ruby King and is survived by her sister, Barbara K. Bessey, also at Woodlawn Care Ctr. and brother Fred F. King, Jr. of Eliot, ME. She was predeceased by her sister, the Rev. Margaret K. Gooding. Additionally, she leaves behind 8 grateful nieces and nephews: Fran, Felicia, Pam, Deb, Lori, Mark, Jason and Monica, several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, her "adopted son" Peter, and many friends on both coasts of the country.
After graduating from SHS in Claremont, NH, in 1946, Aunt Ollie completed her education at Skidmore College in 1950, and the New York Post Graduate Hospital in 1952. Her education and training led to a stellar nursing career that spanned 5 decades and many prominent positions, including Director of Nursing at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Aunt Ollie was known for her larger than life personality, her humor, believing that one "had to do what one had to do", outspokenness, sassiness, mentoring, and good listening ear. She will be remembered most of all for her generosity of heart, shown especially to her patients, to those needing a hand up, friends, family, and cherished animals of all kinds. She was the life of the party and a light in our lives and will be deeply missed.
