Oliver A. Kainu

Oliver Kainu of Newport, NH passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Sullivan County Nursing Home Tuesday May 29, 2018. He was born on January 19, 1930. He was raised in the Lempster/ Newport area and attended local schools.

In 1981, he married Carol J. Chickering. Oliver (Ollie) worked as a custodian for the Dorr Woolen Mill in Guild, NH for 30 years.  Ollie was often seen walking the streets of Newport stopping at Harrington’s Jewelers for his railroad time check for his antique pocket watches and clocks which he collected as a hobby. He was a loyal member of the Newport Moose Club and the Knights of Pythias.  

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Carol in 2000, his son Stephen Corcoran of Claremont in 1993, and his daughter Sharon Hartwell of Newport in 2008.

Ollie is survived by his 4 children, Robert Corcoran and his wife Brenda of Newport, Bonnie Banning of Putnam, CT, Cindy O’Brian of Putnam, CT and Linda LeBlond of Claremont; 9 grandchildren, Vicki-Lynn Blanchard (Quan) and Christopher Blanchard , Helen Bessette (Will) all from Putnam, CT, Mellissa Bessette of Manchester, CT, Mark Shackett (Tammy)  of Jaffrey, Dennis Shackett of Keene, Valerie Corcoran, Michael Corcoran and Alexandre LeBlond all of Claremont, 7 great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thank you to Elaine Thayer for her hard work and loving care of Ollie for 9 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help cover expenses.

Calling hours will be held on Friday June 1 from 4-6 pm at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St. Newport, NH.

A graveside funeral will be on Saturday morning June 2, 2018 at 10 am at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport.
