Welcome to the memorial page for

Richard H. Bailey

March 14, 1954 ~ April 24, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Richard “Rick“  Bailey, 63, of Newport, NH passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 24, 2017.

Rick was born March 14, 1954 in Holyoke, MA. He moved to Newport as a teenage boy and has been a longtime resident since.

For many years, Rick could be found on any given sunny day with a canoe atop his car, a beer in one hand and a fishing pole in the other at either Croydon or Lempster Long Pond or with a group of his close friends and family hiking up to camp for a long weekend at Cole Pond in Enfield. In the past few years he could be seen walking into town along the sugar river, to sit under the trees on the common to enjoy the sun, fresh air and the town he loved for so many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who would rather be out enjoying nature than anywhere else.

The only thing Rick loved more than the great outdoors was his family and friends. He was a proud father and grandfather and in recent years had done his best to spend all the time he could with his son Damian, daughter Laura and grandson Duncan. Anyone that knew Rick knew that he had lived a flawed life for many years but had done his best, with everything that he had, to mend relationships, and make the most of the life he had left with those he loved the most.  He was a big man with a ponytail AND a heart of gold, who would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Rick is survived by his daughter Laura Bailey and her partner Jaime Florence of Newport, son Damian Bailey and his longtime girlfriend Jill Beaudry of Newport, daughter Laurelei Parmeter and her husband Tommy of Ogdensburg, NY, daughter Krystel Wood and her fiancé Nathan Boston of Peublo, CO, His  grandchildren including Duncan Braley of Newport, Shelby Ross of Newport, and many others, too numerous to name, his brother, Bernard Bailey of Gardner, MA, nieces Ann-Marie Roberts of Enfield, NH and Kimberly Doubleday of Massachusetts, nephews BJ Bailey of South Burlington, VT and Travis Bailey of Washington State, many great nieces and nephews. Rick also leaves behind many lifelong friends he loved like family.

Rick was predeceased by his father, Bernard Bailey of MA, mother Bertha Bailey of Newport and a son, Richard Bailey of upstate NY.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rick can be made to the Newton Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport, NH to help cover end of life costs.
