Richard Gosselin Obituary

Newport, NH: Richard Gosselin, 75, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family members on January 2, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born on November 23, 1943 in North Hatley, Quebec, Canada to the late Philias and Helen (Kingdon) Gosselin.

Richard grew up on the family farm in Quebec,  helping to run it after the death of his father.  He married Peggy Gonyea on May 8, 1976 and they raised their family in Newport where they have lived for more than 40 years.  Richard was a welder and fabricator, working for LaValley's Building Supplies and Joy Foundry as well as for his good friend, Arthur Durgin of Durgin and Crowell.  He also logged with his sons and was a snowmaker at Whaleback.  Always a hardworking man, he enjoyed farming, sugaring, and haying in his spare time.

Richard always loved the outdoors and liked to fish.  He was a hockey fan and rooted for his native team, the Montreal Canadiens.   Family was the most important thing in his life and he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by all.

Richard was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Aline.

Surviving family include his wife, Peggy Gosselin of Newport, children, Timothy Gosselin and his fiancé, Addy Williams of Newport, Tracie Benson and her partner, Harold Matheson, Jr. of Unity, Anthony Gosselin and his wife, Tammie of Newport, and Alyssa Gosselin and her partner, Joseph Partlow of Newport, brothers, Jacque Gosselin of North Hatley, Quebec and Michael Gosselin of Sherbrooke, Quebec, sisters, Yvonne Gosselin of Montreal, Quebec, Madeline Gosselin of Waterville, Quebec, and Margaret Wheeler of Pembroke, NH, grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Josh, Alexis, Ashley, Joseph, Jacob, Elise, Dawson, Blake, Kevin, and Hailey, great-grandchildren, Sylas, Kaden, and Aria, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
