Agnes Hitchcock Obituary

Croydon, NH – Agnes M. Hitchcock, lovingly known as “Nan,” passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by her devoted family after a period of declining health.

Born in Flushing, NY, on July 8, 1943, Agnes was the daughter of the late Henry and Essie Dunham. At age 11, she moved to New Hampshire, where she would eventually raise her family and build a life rooted in love, resilience, and care. Agnes worked tirelessly to provide a happy, stable home for her children and was their fiercest advocate.

Later in life, while employed at Sturm, Ruger & Co., Agnes met her husband of 20 years, Brian Hitchcock. Together, they built their “forever home” in Croydon, a place that became the heart of countless family gatherings. Agnes was known for her incredible cooking, always preparing enough to feed an army, and for making everyone feel welcome around her table.

In retirement, Agnes embraced her role as a great-grandmother with joy and pride. She was a constant presence in her great-grandchildren’s lives, sharing her love of baking, gardening, and adventure. Whether playing a game, baking cookies, or getting her hands dirty in the garden, Agnes created memories that will live on for generations.

Above all, Agnes loved her family deeply. She was a dedicated wife, mother, stepmother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Brian Hitchcock; her twin sister, Grace (Raymond) Wentzell and her sister Shirlee Karr; her children, Melissa (Tim) Julian and Rodney (Donna) Guimond; and her stepchildren, Tracey (John) MacKenna, Kelley (Tim) Spanos, Edward (Tammy) Emery, Eliza (Mike) Whipple, and Lisa (Mark) Hitchcock. She also leaves behind 12 beloved grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Agnes was predeceased by her daughter, Veronica Guimond; her sisters, Irene Pike and Flo Marbella; and her brothers, Charles and Henry Dunham.

Agnes will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the love she poured into everything she did. Her memory will live on in the people she loved, in the traditions she passed down, and in the lives she touched with her kindness.

A service to honor Agnes’ life will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Croydon Church, 29 Turnpike Road, Croydon, NH. A reception will follow at Croydon Fire Station.
