Alma was predeceased by her husband, Werner Hardt; her son, Edwin (Barbara) Hardt of CT; and her brothers, Arnold, Edwin, Heinz, and Siegfried Kiauka of Germany.
Alma (Helga) Kiauka Hardt was born in Heydekrug, Germany in 1934 to Johann and Grete Kiauka. Her family moved to Hamburg when she was young. She emigrated to the USA in the late 50s where she met Werner Hardt, who also had emigrated to the USA in 1955. They were united in marriage in Branford, CT on August 29, 1959. They had 2 sons, Edwin B. Hardt and Norbert W. Hardt and resided in North Branford for many years.
In 1987, Werner and Helga retired and moved to Cape Coral, Florida. They loved the warm weather and had many friends and good times at the German American Social Club of Cape Coral. Helga loved cooking, baking, gardening, bowling, and staying fit. She enjoyed life and traveled to many destinations around the world with Werner. One of Helga’s favorite things was spending time with her family in Connecticut and New Hampshire. There are many fond memories of Oma’s awesome blueberry pancakes, marble cakes, and Christmas cookie packages. There was always something to look forward to when Oma was around. We have all been blessed by having her in our lives.
In 2019, Alma moved to New Hampshire. She resided in Newport at Summercrest where she was well cared for and loved. Alma was a strong and beautiful force and will long be remembered by those who had the privilege to know her.
A private celebration of Alma’s life will be held later this year.
