Edinburg, VA – Andrea M. Clough passed away peacefully due to a brief illness at her home surrounded by family on December 21, 2024. She was born in May of 1949, to the late William and Fern (née Bessy) LaFountain in Newport, NH.
Andrea was a member of the first graduating class, of the freshly completed Newport High School in 1967. She worked several jobs including, manufacturing shoes and clothes till becoming an aide at Woodlawn Nursing home. Andrea, became an LPN and at the age of 40 earned her Registered Nurse degree.
In September of 1967 fresh out of high school, she married Thomas E. Clough of Claremont, NH. After raising their three children in Newport, they sold their first house, hooked up the 5th wheel and began traveling the country. Andrea worked in a traveling nursing program for several years eventually landing in the Tucson, AZ area. When Andrea retired from nursing, she and Tom moved to Virginia to settle in the little town of Edinburg.
Andrea participated in the Jaycees with Tom. Originally the Jaycees had a separate woman’s organization called the Jaycee Women. The two organizations eventually combined and kept the name Jaycees. As a Jaycee, Andrea participated in multiple functions raising thousands of dollars for charities such as, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, March of Dimes, and St. Jude, just to name a few.
Andrea is predeceased by her parents, Fern (1976) and William (1998) and her sister Elizabeth Scranton in 2005.
Andrea is survived by her husband of 57 years Thomas Clough Sr., elder son Thomas Clough Jr. of Warrenton, VA, daughter Maria O’hearne of Charlestown, NH and her younger son William Clough of Springfield, VT. She is also survived by her sister Marilyn Hodskins of Lempster, NH, grandchildren; Tyler Clough, Jared Clough, Alyssa Clough, Joshua Martell, Austin Martell, Marcia O’Hearne, Dalton Clough, and Sylas Clough and great-grandchildren; McKenna Mayo, Lainey Mayo, Amelia Martell-Smith, Kiara Martell, Rowan Clough and twins Xara and Xamira Clough.
There will be a celebration and memorial gathering on May 17, 2025 at the South Congregational Church, 20 Church St., Newport, NH at 1100 AM. We look forward to seeing everyone that knew and loved Andrea.
