Anita Barton MacDonald passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024. Born and raised in Grantham, NH, Anita was part of a large and loving extended family. She pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor of Education degree from Plymouth Teacher’s College and a Master of Education degree from Boston University.
Anita had a rewarding career as a business education teacher at Tewksbury Memorial High School in Tewksbury, MA, where she taught thousands of students essential skills ranging from accounting, shorthand, and typing to computer programming. She left a lasting impact on generations of students with her knowledge, kindness, and dedication to learning.
Anita lived in Hampstead, NH, for over 40 years before spending 10 years in Litchfield, NH, and ultimately settling at Riverwoods Manchester.
Anita loved to travel. She enjoyed exploring the United States on camping trips with her daughter, Heather, and family friends, sightseeing throughout Canada and Europe, and discovering the breathtaking beauty of Hawaii. She enjoyed snowmobiling with family, quilting, card making and was always up for learning new crafts.
Anita was predeceased by her parents, Etta (Murray) and Herman Barton, and her brother, Deane Barton. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather Achilles, and her husband, Mike; her niece, Kerry Barton-Richardson, and her partner, Todd Stone; and her niece, Tammy Barton.
Anita’s legacy lives on through the countless memories she created with friends and loved ones. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH.
