Anna Jane (Dettrey) Young Obituary
Anna (Anne) Jane Dettrey Young, born April 29, 1929 to Cecilia Francesca (Dillensnyder) Dettrey and Grant Dettrey of Frackville, PA passed peacefully in her sleep next to her daughter, Shauna Eberhardt at Sullivan County Nursing Home on Saturday, September 28, 2024. She held a degree in English from Mayville State University and was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fargo, ND before moving back to New England in 2023 to spend her latter years with her loving family.
Anne married the love of her life, Pete Young on May 5, 1951. Although he preceded her in death on December 30, 2019, he awaited her with loving arms. Anne and Pete had four children, Peter (Jane) Youngbaer, Kenneth (Nancy) Young, Barry (Jane) Young, and Jayne (Scott) Brustad. After the passing of their youngest daughter, Jayne in 1985, Pete and Anne took on the task of raising their "bonus" daughter, Shauna (Darrin) Eberhardt. Anne and Pete had a total of 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Anne dedicated much of her life to her family and loved every single child, grandchild, great, and great-great grandchild unconditionally.
Over the course of her life, Anne and Pete traveled the country, camping, and teaching their children and grandchildren about the beauty of nature and the importance of history. Anne loved learning and valued education highly. Anne and Pete were active members and leaders in the church, as Pete served several churches, eventually landing in Mayville Congregational Church (UCC) in Mayville, ND. During their time in ND, Anne participated in multiple volunteer organizations including the Caring Club which supported the local hospital. Anne's nature was to be giving. She donated to a variety of charitable organizations over her lifetime, participated in civil rights movements, crocheted blankets and mats for unhoused individuals.
Anne will be greatly missed, but her life will be celebrated in a private ceremony by her family atop Owls Head Mountain, where it was Anne and Pete's final wishes to remain together for all eternity. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Anne's favorite charitable organizations: Doctors Without Borders, http://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org , United Way Worldwide, http://support.unitedway.org/page/unitedway , Salvation Army, https://give.salvationarmyusa.org/give/164006/#!/donation/checkout?amount=Other Feeding America, http://give.feedingamerica.org or Habitat for Humanity International http://secure.habitat.org.
