Newport, NH: Barbara Violet (Heino) Tatro, age 84, passed on March 16, 2022.
She was born on October 31, 1937 in Acworth, NH to Kalevro Heino, Sr. and Tyyne (Tuaminen) Heino. She was the oldest of 7 children; three brothers: Kalevro Heino, Jr., Arthur Heino, Sr., and William "Bill" Heino; and three sisters: Tyyne Cox, Martha Jennings, and Bertha Austin.
Barbara worked at Green Mountain coat Factory, Dorr Woolen, and volunteered at Newport Food Pantry where she received an award from the Governor for her dedication. She also won the Chili Cook-off award several years in a row.
She had a big role in her grandchildren's life, always being there and helping them with whatever they needed for that last 15-20 years. In her prime, she loved to dance the polka.
She loved cooking for everyone, and it will be hard to beat her cooking. She had a beautiful flower garden, and she loved canning, playing dice with anyone who would play, poker, and scratch tickets. She raised many animals from pigs to peacocks, and enjoyed watching hummingbirds and gray squirrels.
Barbara was predeceased by her father and mother, Kalevro and Tyyne Heino; her brother Bill; and baby boy Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Thornton; her son, Charles Tatro, Jr. and his wife Agatha; her daughter, Sheila Quimby; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at Newton Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
