Betty J. (Heath) Reid

Sunapee, NH: Betty Jane (Heath) Reid died peacefully at her home on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the age of 91. Betty was born on February 21, 1931 in Rochester, NH to Walter C. and Mary Evelyn Heath. She was raised in Rochester and Hillsborough, NH. Betty earned her RN degree at Elliot Hospital School of Nursing in Keene. She spent her years in nursing primarily at Newport Hospital and Dartmouth Hitchcock, Lebanon. Many valued friendships were made while working in the profession that she loved.

Betty’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren. She nurtured friendships from Newport, Sunapee, and beyond. Betty cherished her time in Sunapee as an active member of Sunapee Seniors, Sunapee Gardeners, a former trustee of the Abbott Library and a former choir member at the Sunapee Methodist Church.

Betty is predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Heath Clark of Rochester, Marilyn Heath Curry of Redwood City, Ca. and her daughter, Jane Elizabeth Reid. Surviving family members include her children, Donna Holdman and husband, James of Sudbury, MA & Sunapee, John Reid and wife, Darlene of Webster, NH, her former husband, Raymond Reid, Newport, grandchildren, Timothy Reid and wife, Colleen, Bradley Reid, Gregory Holdman, and Laura Holdman. She cherished her devoted nephews and niece, her chosen grandchildren, and her five great grandchildren.

Betty’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Lake Sunapee VNA & Hospice nurses and aides who lovingly cared for her in her final months at home.

Services for Betty will be held on Saturday March 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Lake Sunapee United Methodist Church.  A reception will follow at the church.  Burial in North Newport Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Friends of Abbott Library, PO Box 314, Sunapee, 03782 or Sunapee Gardeners, c/o Muriel Burgeron, PO Box 25, George’s Mills, NH 03751
