Croydon, NH: Bruce R. Jasper, of Croydon, NH, passed away unexpectedly at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on December 21, 2023 with his wife, Ann, by his side after a brief illness.
He was born in Nashua, NH on April 10, 1947, and was brought up on the family poultry farm in Hudson, NH until he moved to Nashua at the age of 10. Bruce graduated from Nashua High School, class of 1965. He earned his BA in Political Science at the University of New Hampshire and his JD from the University of Tulsa College of Law. Bruce became a lawyer because he enjoyed helping people and began practicing law in Newport in 1973. He was a partner in the law firm of Elliott, Jasper, Shklar, Ranson & Beaulac, LLP, at the time of his passing, and he had been with the firm for 50 years, which has had various other offtakes of the names Elliott, Jasper. He was a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and the Sullivan County Bar Association.
Being part of the community was very important to Bruce. He was involved in many community service boards and organizations, including membership in the Newport Rotary Club for 40 years, serving as a past President and as Secretary for the past 39 years, as well as his position as Moderator for the Town and School District in Croydon. Additionally, at the time of his passing, he was active on the following boards: Croydon Zoning Board of Adjustment, Newport Senior Center, Wags & Wiggles Rescue; and Economic Corporation of Newport (ECON). He was also Chairman of his High School Reunion Committee for many years along with his good friend and classmate, Cynthia Magill. In prior years, he was active on the Newport Budget Committee, Newport Water & Sewer Committee, Richards Free Library, Sullivan County United Way, and the Springfield Zoning Board of Adjustment. In his younger years, he coached little league baseball in Newport.
Bruce's hobbies included candlepin bowling and music. He loved oldies music. When he moved to Newport and started practicing law, he worked part time at the local radio station as a volunteer DJ. He was known as 'BJ the DJ'. He also DJ'd various weddings and events over the years, including the Newport Winter Carnival. Still not fully retired at the time of his passing, he was always helping people. His dad jokes, quick wit, and sage advice will be missed beyond words.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Una Progris and Robert Jasper, and his brother-in-law William 'Bill' VanderWoude.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ann Jasper, his daughter Michelle Gilbert and husband, Robert of Seaside, CA; his daughter Jennifer Lynch and husband Michael of Port Orange, FL; his step-daughter Natallia Whiting and husband Ronald of Temple, TX; his five grandchildren: Jacob, Natalie and Benjamin Gilbert, and Jackson and Chloe Lynch; his eight step-grandchildren: Anthony Vaccaro, Phillip, Margaret, Tatiana, Luciano, Stephano, Vincent and Carmine Whiting; his sister Susan Wright and her husband Richard of Loudon, NH; his brothers James Jasper and wife Anne of Wilton, NH; and Gregg Jasper of Cathedral City, CA; his step-mother Reita Jasper of Hudson, NH; his brother Shawn Jasper and wife Laurie of Hudson, NH; his sister Maria VanderWoude of Loudon, NH; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Steve Gouin of Newport, NH; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other extended family, friends, and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on January 13, 2023 at the South Congregational Church of Newport, followed by a celebration of life at the Croydon Fire Station, 828 NH-10, Croydon, NH. In Lieu of flowers, donations
