Unity, NH: Charles Alfred Hudson, of Unity, NH died in the early morning hours of March 28, 2022 with his loving wife Gata by his side. Chuck was 73 years old. He had suffered with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and COPD. Chuck was a jack of all trades and a Master Electrician. He left behind his two sons, John and Ethan, and a granddaughter, Azalea, all dearly loved. There will be no services, as was his wish. Charles was a devout atheist.
Chuck was born in Burlington, VT. then adopted. He never cared to wonder about his birth parents. His adoptive parents were his parents as far as he was concerned. His father Alfred was a physics teacher in Brooklyn, NY. His mother Bernice enjoyed working at The New Yorker magazine. The family spent their summers helping out at a dairy farm in Hanksville, Vt. As a teenager, Chuck worked with The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), traveling to Mississippi to help promote civil rights in those turbulent years. It was as a teenager that he met his future wife.
Chuck and Gata were married in 1969. By the early '70s they made their way to Unity, where they eventually built a house. Chuck's first job after moving to town was working on the road crew where he developed a lasting friendship with the road agent at the time, George Dunn. Chuck had numerous occupations until settling in as an electrician. Charles ran Unity Electric for many years with the help of both sons. Chuck also put his time in as a volunteer with the Unity Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a Deputy Fire Warden. He was Unity's Building Inspector for a time, and also helped out with 4H programs, even serving on a NH Extension Service Board for a bit. Chuck loved to sail and spent much happy time on his numerous boats over the years, on Lake Sunapee and Lake Champlain.
Not only a father and grandfather, Chuck was an uncle to three nieces: Debby Wood of S. Carolina, Betsy Eisenmann of Boston, MA, and Cathy Paradise of Augusta, GA. Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers, Dr. James Hudson and John Rogers Hudson IV.
