Newport, NH- Dennis Edward Gokey died peacefully in his home on March 24th in the presence of family at age 76 years. Dennis was born in Keene, NH to Parents Fredrick Gokey and Margaret Whitcomb Kenyon.
Dennis worked very hard his whole life. Starting with chores as a kid, 4 years in the Air Force where he worked in airplane maintenance, then onto his own Auto Garage "Ready Eddies" in Kittery, Maine. He quickly got interested in the lobster fishing industry and bought a boat and his lobster fishing career began. This adventure was soon shadowed by his successful wholesale seafood business. Success here led to an "Early Retirement"... Dennis moved to Marianna, Florida. Here he invested in real estate, built a beautiful home and even started cattle farming! When he wasn't working, his passion was nature. You could find him fishing or hunting or just riding back roads watching for all types of wildlife. Dennis never sat still the best years of his life. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Fredrick Gokey, Margaret Kenyon, Sister Diana Gokey and brothers Donald and David Gokey.
Surviving family includes sisters Dottie Bennett, Doreen Gokey Burnell, and Charlene Hastings. Brothers, Dexter Gokey, David and Randall Kenyon. Daughters Tonia Mays, Jennifer Gokey, son Adam Gokey and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral is scheduled for Noon April 16th at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH 03773 with a Veteran's burial to be announced at a later date.
