Dorothy J (Whittle) Riley

Concord, NH: Dorothy J. Riley, 87, born in New York, NY and formerly of Sunapee, NH, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023.

Dorothy moved to Sunapee in the spring of 1976 helping to fulfill her husband Bob’s long held ambition to run his own business. As a store manager at JC Penney, she was assigned to successively larger and more complex stores. She was promoted to the regional management team, at a time when most leadership positions were held by men. Following her retirement, she purchased and operated the Burkehaven Hill Motel in Sunapee, NH.

She was predeceased by husband Robert Wagner, son, Robert Wagner, Jr. and second husband Wilfred Riley.

Surviving family members include; son, Tom Wagner and his wife, Jo-Ellen Wagner; grandchildren, Samuel Wagner, Gretchen Wagner and Katherine Brown (stepdaughter of Dorothy’s son Robert).

Memorial Calling Hours will be held on Friday November 10, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport, NH.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday November 12 at 1 PM at Eastman Cemetery on North Road in Sunapee.
