Unity, NH - Douglas R. Putnam, Sr., 93, passed away on April 19, 2018 at Sullivan County Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones.
Douglas was born on March 18, 1925 in Croydon, NH to the late Orra and Lucy (Miller) Putnam. He worked many years at Joy Manufacturing, Inc. He also worked at Sturm Ruger for an extended period of time at which time he opened his own business doing furniture refinishing at The Yankee Stripper which showed his wood working talents. His business grew to have many satisfied customers. In his final years of working he worked as night watchman for Durgin and Crowell Lumber Company, Inc. where he finally retired from to stay home and enjoy the farm he loved so much.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, camping and fishing. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish. He will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his parents. Surviving family members include his sons, Douglas, Jr. and his wife Ann of Lempster, NH, and Walter Putnam of Claremont, NH; daughters, Terry Jones of Newport, NH, and Pamela Marden of Guild, NH; nine grandchildren, Cindy Menard and her husband Denis, Lori Paré and her husband Kevin, Francis Jones and his wife Christine, Jeremy Burrington and his fiancé Bridget Heard, Kristen Ray and her husband Jason, Jonathan Hauge and his wife Jacklyn, Ryan Putnam, Tyler Putnam and his partner Jamie Bascom, and Jalyssa Robbins; great-grandchildren, Brandon Langlois, Michael Langlois, Ava Ray, Sawyer Ray, Margaux Hauge, Margaret Jones, Madison Jones, Brett Paré, and Derrick Paré; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Hunter Langlois.
In keeping with the wishes of Doug there are no formal services. Newton Bartlett will assist the family with burial at a later date at Croydon Flat Cemetery.
