George Hale Dyke passed away after an extended battle with cancer and alcoholism on July 13th in his childhood home in Newport, NH at the age of 60.

George was born on November 7, 1965 in Newport, NH to Constance (Blaisdell) and Earl Dyke. Born and raised in Newport, he graduated from Newport High School, class of 1983. Shortly after graduating, he would meet and wed his wife, Michelle (Longfellow), with whom he shares three children. Throughout his adult life, George struggled privately with his addiction to alcohol, always relaxing after a long day with a beer or two that would quickly become thirty. His addiction wasn’t who he was but it was a part of his everyday life. It took everything he loved from him and, in the end, it played a part in taking him from those who loved him. Please know, if you or someone you know is struggling with this silent battle, you are not alone and there will always be someone there to help when you are ready.

Despite this, George was always a hard-working, dedicated employee who, after a short time as a volunteer fireman for Newport Fire Department, would find his passion in CnC machining working for shops such as Basic, Latva and RDS. Always second shift and accepting overtime whenever possible, his family often joked that the only thing he loved more than them was working.

He did love his family more, though, and he is remembered fondly in the memories shared: living room dance parties (Bob Seger and CCR, to name a couple), evenings grilling (always charcoal), weekend lunch dates with his kids and Maine vacations (Newick's for dinner, whole belly clams, gotta have that grit), summers blueberry and strawberry picking and always apples in the fall. He was a simple, humble man who was always willing to admit when he was wrong, even if he’d never admit his grilled cheeses were too buttery.

Besides his love for work and his family, George enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, cruising on a motorcycle (always dreamt of a Harley) and 4 wheeling in his truck (never a Ford). He often shared stories of his younger days with his buddies Kevin and James Callum and Shawn Simonds, lamenting the Pontiac GTO he sold before his first daughter was born and all the trouble he would get into growing up. He loved baseball and football. A lifelong New England fan, he could usually be found listening to the game and puttering around in the garage in his time off. He was so looking forward to teaching his grandchildren the finer points of the game. He was a kind and dedicated brother, husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those he leaves behind.

George is pre-deceased by his father, Earl Dyke, mother, Constance Blaisdell, brother, Douglas Baker, and nephew, Tyson Reed.

Surviving members include his wife, Michelle Dyke; his children, Amanda Casale and her husband, Kevin Casale, Melissa Hack, her husband, Michael Hack, and their two children, Mariana and Fennec Hack, Chris Dyke and their girlfriend Marcy Cisneros; brothers, Ralph Dyke and Harold Blaisdell, and his wife, Emily Paris; sister, Theresa Reed, and her son, Adam Carpenter; as well as several extended family members and friends.
