Newport, NH: Gertrude A. Russell, 91, passed away on August 25, 2022 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH.
Gert was born on August 12, 1931, in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Bessie York. She was raised and educated in Farmington, NH and graduated from Rochester High School in the Class of 1949. She married David V. Russell and shared 12 years together when he died on April 5, 1982. Gert was employed at Claremont Maid Shoe Shop and later with Goodyear for over 18 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Newport, but most of her time was devoted to the Church. She worked as a housekeeper in Merrimack at Our Lady of Mercy for 5 years and then 5 years at St. Patrick's in Bennington, NH under Fr. Carty. In 2001 she began housekeeping at St. Patrick's in Newport where she was a Daily Communicant.
Survivors include her 3 sons: Calvin Wallace of Jacksonville, VT; Gary Wallace and his wife Kathy of Northboro, MA; James Russell and his wife Naija of Prescott Valley, AZ; her daughter Donna Marcoux of Windsor, VT; 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, 32 Beech Street in Newport, at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 12, 2022. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery on Summer St.
