Hazel J. (Gould) King passed on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Woodlawn Healthcare Center in Newport, NH, three weeks after her beloved husband, John, passed.
She was born on July 7, 1931 to the late Earle and Blanche (Paige) Gould in Newport. She attended area schools and spent most of her life in North Newport. She married John L King on July 31, 1948 and they shared 76 wonderful years. They loved their home in North Newport where they raised their children.
She worked at International and Sportwelt shoe companies, Hartford Element Company, and most recently at Sturm Ruger, all in Newport, where she retired from there in 1993 as an inspector after over 20 years of service. She was very proud of being one of the first women to work out in the factory.
Hazel was a past member of the North Newport Union Chapel, member of the First Congregational Church of Croydon where she also sang with the Croydon Church Singers and bowled with the Church Holy Rollers. Hazel did a lot of volunteer work for community and church. She was a wonderful cook. Her delicious homemade potato rolls and baked beans were a staple at many church and community suppers..
At Christmas, family and friends would receive a box filled with potato rolls, baked beans, peanut brittle, fudge, rice crispy bars, applesauce, and relish all homemade. She was very crafty making beautiful doillies and afghans among other crafts. Hazel had the most beautiful flower gardens - people driving by the house would slow down just to catch a glimpse of them.
She is survived by her son John King, Jr. and his partner Judy Knight, Janet Eaklor and husband William, Joni Bliss and fiancée Walter Perry, James King and wife Kandy, a sister, Gertrude Lewis, an aunt, Bernice Perry all of Newport, grandchildren Amy King of Lakehills, TX., Heidi Hillock of Springfield, VT, Jamee King, Claremont, NH, and Sarah Foote also of Claremont, 5 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, cousins, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings Kenneth, Richard, Earlene Dowlin, Marjorie Wilcox and Jane O'Clair.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 pm at the North Newport Cemetery on Oak Street for both Hazel and John.
Newton Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
