James (John) Howard King, 74, passed peacefully in his home in Lempster, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026. He was born in Conway, South Carolina, on August 11th, 1951. Married at Saint Peter’s Church in Lowell, Massachusetts, to the late Cecile Marie (Plourde) King, they were married for forty-nine years. They moved to Lempster, New Hampshire, in 1985 with their two daughters.
James grew up in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area, and developed a love for nature, cars and motorcycles which persisted throughout his life. He continued to enjoy hunting and fishing in his adulthood.
He is survived by daughters Melanie King Osgood and son-in-law Christopher Osgood of Newport, NH, and Christine King and son-in-law Glenn Gregoire of Lempster, NH.
James has three grandchildren, Katharyn Contois and Ashton Gregoire of Lempster, NH, and Isabella Osgood of Newport, NH. He has many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is the son of Edna Carroll King and H.H. King, and brother to H.H. King Jr., Edward King, and sister-in-law Patricia King, Hoyt King, and sister-in-law Brenda King, Peggy McNeill, and brother-in-law Russell McNeill of South Carolina, and the late David King.
He is remembered by brother and sister-in-laws Bill and Marsha Plourde of Lowell, MA, alongside the late Roger and Laura Plourde of Milford, NH, Raymond Plourde of Newport, NH, and Marie and Gerald Dunn of Dracut, MA.
James is remembered for his laughter, storytelling, and adventurous nature, which he instilled in his family.
