Jane A. (Barrett) Shackett

Newport, NH: Jane A. (Barrett) Shackett, 92, of Knoll Street, passed away at New London Hospital on March 30, 2023.

She was born in New London, NH on June 18, 1930 the daughter of Harry and Florence M. (Hunt) Barrett.

Jane graduated from New London High School in 1948 and worked as a switchboard operator for the New London Telephone Company. She also worked for Cran's Department Store. Then from 1958-1995 she had been employed by Sugar River Savings Bank which she retired from.

For many years Jane spent winters in Las Vegas to be near her children. She enjoyed her flower gardens, growing tomatoes, crocheting, sewing, clogging as well as line and square dancing. Jane also liked to exercise with Lil's Limber Ladies at the Newport Recreation Department. She lived her later years happily at Summercrest Assisted Living with friends.

She is predeceased by her parents; husband of 68 years, Robert Shackett; and eleven siblings, Horace, Robert, Fred, Bruce, George, Harry, Pearl Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Palmer, Ruth Gagnon, Pauline O'Neil and Eleanor Hurd,. She is survived by a daughter, Heather Locher of Newport, NH; a son, Randall Scott of Las Vegas, NV; three granddaughters, Shari Shackett, Staci Shackett and Megan Locher; siblings, Donald Barrett of New London, NH, Verne Barrett of Elkins, NH, Sherman Barrett of Concord, NH and Mary Jean Wibel of Nebraska.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 11 AM in North Newport Cemetery.
