Janet L (Prescott) Simoneau

Newport, NH: On Wednesday, August 5, 2025, Janet L. Simoneau of Newport, NH, passed away peacefully at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Janet was a life-long resident of Newport, being born there on June 8, 1944 to the late Alfred and Marian (Trombley) Prescott.

She was a lover of Country music, with her favorite songs being Family Bible by Willie Nelson and The Old Rugged Cross by Ricky Van Shelton. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and had many, many friends.

While she worked several jobs throughout her life, her passion was being a seamstress. She loved sewing clothes and making alterations, crocheting afghans, knitting mittens. Another favorite past time of hers was playing bingo. She also loved her pet birds: a cockatiel named Cinnamon and two parakeets, Blue and Tweety.

Family was everything to Janet. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She dearly loved her husband of 51 years, Raymond Simoneau, who sadly passed in 2017. They had known each other since they were five years old, and even after his passing, her love for him never wavered. It brings comfort to their family that they are now reunited.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Basher (Michael), her sons Michael Simoneau (Wendy King) and Paul Simoneau (Nan), her sister Louise Armstrong, her grandchildren: Lea Hursky (Henry), Christina Cortright (Austin), Lawrence Basher,  Thomas Simoneau, Keenen Simoneau, Alexis Simoneau, Heidi Simoneau (Ken Sammon), and Alex Simoneau; her great grandchildren: Tavian Simoneau, Evelyn and Eloise Cortright, and Josephine and Theodore Sammon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the IPF Foundation (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) to fund the research to find a cure.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Pine Grove Cemetery on Sunapee Street in Newport.
