Newport, NH — Jean C. Hodgman, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6th at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH, surrounded by comfort and care.
Born in Westport, CT on March 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Dombroski and Norma (Commette) Dombroski.
Jean shared a remarkable 68-year marriage with her beloved husband, Robert Hodgman. Together, they built a life filled with resilience and unwavering partnership. As a devoted wife and mother, Jean dedicated herself to her home and family.
She found happiness in the outdoors and in the work of her hands. Jean enjoyed gardening, sewing, and rugmaking, often crafting items that will be treasured by her family for years to come. She also loved fishing and snowmobiling—activities that reflected her spirit and connection to New Hampshire’s seasons and landscape.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hodgman, parents and her sister, Lois Howley.
She is lovingly remembered by daughters, Karen Hebert and her husband Scott of Newbury, NH, and Sandra Gassett of Sedona, AZ; her sister, Judy Huff; her brother, Thomas Dombroski and his wife Deb; her grandchildren, Elisha Greenleaf of Phoenix, AZ, Justin Hebert of San Diego, CA, and Ben Hebert and his wife Dani of Missoula, MT; her great-granddaughter, Lily Hebert; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Jack Byrne Center for their compassion and care during her last days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jack Byrne Hospice Center.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 9th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St, Newport, NH. A graveside service and celebration of life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 11 AM at Mill Village Cemetery in Goshen, NH, with a gathering at the Newport Golf Club Pavilion, 112 Unity Rd, Newport, NH following the burial.
