Newport, NH: John Oscar Kainu, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at the Jack Byrne Hospice Center in Lebanon, NH on August 2, 2024. He was born on October 6, 1942 in Newport, NH to the late John Kainu, Sr. and Impi (Kiviaho) Kainu.
John was the son of Finnish immigrants whom immigrated from Finland in 1929. He was always proud of his Finnish heritage. He lived in the Newport area most of his life and attended Newport schools. He was a hardworking man, spending years working at Dorr Woolen and area shoe shops. John enjoyed history, reading, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. He also liked antiques, being outdoors, and metal detecting.
John was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Kaino Brown, Alli Wheeler, Bertha Henderson, and Lauri Kainu; daughter, Laurie Ann Kainu; and just recently by his beloved dog, Ragnar.
Surviving family members include his children, Ricky Kainu, Lisa Miller and husband, Ron, Angelique Hamilton, John Kainu III and wife, Honi, Angela Bushway and husband, Walter, Erik Kainu and wife, Sarah, Eryn Kainu, and Alli Kainu-Davey and husband, Daniel; 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; good friend, Greg Hamel; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Services will be private.
