Newport, NH: The family of John Misencik is saddened to share the news of his passing on September 22, 2022. The son of the late Emrich Misencik and Antonia Bujnacek Misencik of Beaverdale, PA, John took pride in his Slovak heritage that his parents instilled in him. He was always proud to share a few words of his parent’s native language with family and celebrated his mother’s traditional Christmas Eve dinner of pierogi.
A friend to all, John never met a stranger. If you encountered him for even a brief moment, he would stop what he was doing to share a quick joke. He loved to bring a smile and a laugh to everyone he met. A lover of all games of chance, his second home was the bingo hall. He loved to shout “BINGO!” before anyone else. At family gatherings, he ensured that a lively game of poker - including his favorite game of Black Mariah - would soon ensue. And, of course, he shared his love of Cribbage by teaching everyone he knew how to play. He had no greater joy than “skunking” a competitor and light-heartedly gloating about it!
An electrical engineer by trade, John’s career spanned many years at both Harvey Hubble and Bryant Electric. His proudest professional accomplishments include holding several U.S. Government patents for the ground fault breaker.
John’s life was full of travels. From his hometown of Beaverdale, PA he traveled as part of the Air Force across the Atlantic to France - where he and his bride, Lorraine Therese Vaszlavik Misencik, gave birth to their first son, Emery. Upon their return home, John and Lorraine settled in Shelton, CT where they raised their growing family, adding children Thomas, Therese, Cynthia, and Kathleen. Not one to be content in a single location, John soon set his sights on constructing a family getaway in Mt. Holly, VT. This hand-built home, with beautiful views of Salt Ash Mountain, would become John and Lorraine’s retirement home. Later in life, the couple ventured south to Greer, SC to enjoy the warm Southern weather and hospitality. It was here that Lorraine passed away in 2017 surrounded by loving family.
After his wife’s passing, John enjoyed years of traveling the United States to visit family before deciding to settle in New Hampshire.. Of course, the New England location was perfect for John
to keep up with his favorite pastime: Red Sox baseball and New England Patriots football. John loved to talk baseball and encouraged lively debate over who was the best player on the team!
John is survived by Emery and Mary Misencik and son Emery Jr., Tom and Rose Ann Misencik and their children Nicole, Thomas Jr., and Leann and fiancé Jimmie, Therese and Steven Williams, and their children Michael and wife Jacqueline, Kacie, Jordan and husband Justin, Sara, Craig, Ashley and six great grandchildren, Cindy and Paul Candia, and Kathie and Josh Flood and their children Dakota and Dillon and wife Jewel.
In the final years of his life John was blessed by caregivers who loved and cared for him. His family extends heart-felt thanks to those who always shared a kind smile and a new joke with him. They are angels who brought comfort to all.
At a future date, John will be buried near his parents in his hometown of Beaverdale. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends, loved ones, and extended family raise a spicy Clamato Cocktail and give a Slovak toast: Na zdravie!
