John M. Moorehouse

Sunapee, NH - John M. Moorehouse, 51, died unexpectedly at home of a heart attack on December 5, 2020.  He was born on August 12, 1969, to Michael and Joanne (McCarthy) Moorehouse in Lynn, MA.

After graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1987, John attended Carleton College in Minnesota. He then volunteered for a year at a Catholic orphanage and youth center in Tijuana, Mexico, where he met fellow volunteer, Robin Straley.  The two were married in 1995. They taught at schools in Nicaragua, Venezuela, Vermont, and Massachusetts, then together welcomed five amazing children: Aidan, Brendan, Anya, Luke, and Angela.  John was tirelessly devoted to his wife and children, as anyone who knew him would attest.  

John made a name for himself as the founder of Catholic Men’s Quarterly magazine.  A few years ago, he became Acquisitions Editor for the Catholic publisher, TAN Books. Both in his personal and professional life, John was passionately dedicated to his faith.

John is predeceased by his mother, Joanne McCarthy.  Surviving family includes his loving wife, Robin Moorehouse; children, Aidan, Brendan, Anya, Luke, and Angela Moorehouse; father, Michael Moorehouse and his wife, Annette; brother, Matthew Moorehouse and his wife, AnneMarie;  aunt, Peggy Singleton and her husband, John; uncles, Dennis McCarthy and his wife, MaryLou, and James McCarthy and his wife, Nancy; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

A public walkthrough visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church for close friends and family. Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Newport, NH.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your prayers for John’s soul. May his legacy be the return of family and friends to the Church, a desire he held and worked to accomplish throughout his adult life.
