John Louis Splendore, 82, of Grantham, NH, completed his longest research project on February 12, 2025. Born to John and Lena (Parlo) Splendore in Cedarhurst, NY on June 14, 1942, John grew up on Long Island, the youngest of three children. He maintained a close relationship with his two older sisters, Edith (Rose) and Diana, throughout their lives. In 1964, John earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Merrimack College, and following graduation, enlisted in the US Air Force. During his six year tenure in the Air Force, John reached the rank of captain, and was stationed in Turkey, Long Island, and Texas. It was during his time in Texas he had the fortune of meeting his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Honey. Dorothy and John wed in 1965, and returned to the Northeast to raise their two children, Diane and John, as well numerous dogs and cats over the years. John spent the last decades of his career as a professional engineer for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, working to protect soil and water safety and pioneering methods of testing for hazardous contamination in groundwater. A scientist at heart, John had a passion for research and a personal quest to learn all he could, and perhaps untangle some of the mysteries of quantum physics, history, and life itself. In his later years, he kept himself busy with research, writing, stoking the woodstove, keeping an eye on the birdfeeder, and armchair ontology from his forested home in the Eastman Community of Grantham, where he lived with his devoted wife, Dottie.
John is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Diane, his son John, and grandchildren Marissa, Hannah, and Michael Splendore.
