Jolene Ann (Smith) Clough

Jolene Ann Clough, loving wife, sister, devoted mother, grandmother & great grandmother passed away from diabetic complications peacefully with family by her side at DHMC on Nov. 28, 2022. She was born on Aug. 22, 1947 to Adam Smith & Patricia (Davis) Smith in Newport, N.H. She was the first of three daughters. Patricia remarried after Adam's passing to Eugene Cote and they had three children together.

After graduating from Towle High School in Newport she became a nurse. Attending classes through Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital's nursing program in 1966. She started her career in nursing at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport. She also did some private duty work for a couple on Lake Sunapee. She spent many years working in the Extended Care at New London Hospital and after working 15 yrs at Cedar Hill Care Center of Windsor VT, she retired in 2019.

She married David G. Bunnell, of Claremont, N.H. in February of 1967. They had three children together, Jeanine, Brent & Lonnie before separating. In July of 1992 she married John Clough of Claremont, N.H. They lived happily in Newport, N.H. until her passing.

Jolene loved spending time with her family and friends. She devoted many years and much of her time to her disabled son Brent. In the summers she enjoyed playing golf, going to the beach, picking blueberries and bowling in the winters. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and other crafts. Liking to stay busy she volunteered at the Newport Senior Center and enjoyed participating in its many programs.

She is predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Brenda Kingsbury & Karen Williams, & ex-husband David Bunnell. She leaves behind her brother Eugene (Erica) Cote Jr. of Sutton NH, sisters Deborah Yardumain of MA, Lisa Castor of NH. Her immediate family, husband of 40+ yrs John Clough, children: Jeanine (David) Kendall of Wilder Vermont, Brent & Lonnie Bunnell of Claremont NH, Step children Todd (Janet) Clough of Langdon NH & Katherine Clough of Bellows Falls VT. Her grandchildren Ryan (Jordyn) Sargent of Cornish NH, Megan Sargent of Claremont NH, Dawn Hale, Ben Chambers, Brittany Chambers Clough, Alex Clough, & Adam Gunn. Along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews & great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking to have donations in her name be given to the Newport Senior center.

There will be graveside services which will be held on Dec. 10, 2022 @ 1:00 pm in the Newport Pine Grove Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Moose Club in Newport.
