Joyce A (Newell) Glazier

Newport NH: Joyce Anne Glazier passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19th 2023 in the Jack Byrne Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. Born on November 21, 1935 in Newport NH, to Ronald and May Newell, she was 87 years old.

Joyce reigned as the 1952 Winter Carnival Queen in Newport where she was the first ever queen who could also ice skate like a pro. Watching her glide across the smooth ice was a beautiful scene indeed!

She graduated from Newport Towle High School in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, Philip L Glazier on September 2, 1956 and they remained married until the time of his passing, July 2022.

Born and raised in New England, Philip and Joyce moved their family to Michigan in 1970, where they raised their 3 sons, Philip Jr, Chris and Bruce. 

It would be many years before her prayers were answered and they returned to her beloved New Hampshire. There they owned and operated several businesses, including the Carroll Motel, the Holy Cow restaurant and Tuttle Brook Log Homes. Their phone number ended in 5050, as they were equal partners in everything they did until the end.

Joyce was known to be a bit flamboyant and would always dress up in outrageous outfits with matching hats, earrings and shoes. Her goal was always to make others laugh and be happy. She enjoyed life to its fullest.

Her greatest achievement in life was as a loving, caring wife and mom, raising three sons who adored her. She was always talking about the importance of family in every aspect of life.

Joyce was also a devout Christian. She prayed daily and regularly attended services at the Croydon Church. Her love of God gave her strength and hope.

She is survived by her son Christopher Glazier and son Bruce Glazier and his wife Tammy Glazier; sister Joni Salamon  and her husband Bruce Salamon; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Philip Glazier, who loved her everyday they were together; beloved eldest son Philip Glazier Jr; her parents; brothers Ronald Newell Jr, Richard Newell, James Newell, Billy Newell and her sister Janet Withee.

Calling hours will be between 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday March 26th, at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport NH. Services will be held privately.
